Tuesday 2nd August

Me in my bedroom at the Grand Mercure Rockford in Palm Cove

Today we had to get up really early - 8.00 am.  Well, it is early for me anyway!  We had to drive back into Sydney, and get a flight to Cairns, Queensland.  On the way there, Dad took us on a detour.  It took about 30 mins longer than the normal journey would have.  It turned out that it was just a drive through forest rather than the lovely coastal scenic drive that Dad thought it would be!

We got to the airport, checked in and went through security very smoothly.  In the terminal shops I bought a new pair of sunglasses and a new bikini.  By the time I had done this and had a coffee and something to eat, it was time to board the plane.

The flight was 4 hours long and not enjoyable at all.  There was a crying baby a couple of rows behind us which was annoying!  Someone trumped (Dad says I have to say 'broke wind') in the seat in front of Mum which didn't add to the experience!!!

When we arrived in Cairns we had to wait half an hour while a guy sorted out our rental car.  At least it was warm outside.  It was a 20 min drive along the coast to the Grand Mercure Rockford Hotel in Palm Cove.  Our accommodation was really nice - it had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies which I was happy about.

We unpacked and went for tea at the Portobello Italian restaurant on the front.  I had spaghetti carbonara which was delicious. Mum had pasta filled with pumpkin - she's got something about eating pumpkin this holiday as she has had it about four times in various different concoctions!

After dinner we went for a walk along the seafront to get our bearings and work out where everything was.  I was really tired when we got back to our apartment after a long day of travelling.

Speak soon.
