| Me and Dad on the harbour front waiting for the Eco Extreme to arrive (the boat in the background is what we were going to be going on before we were upgraded) |
Today we went whale-watching. We boarded the Eco Extreme at 12.15 pm and got really good seats right at the back. The guys on board were really nice to us and we set off at a mega high speed. First of all, we saw some Fairy Penguins diving in and out of the water which was awesome. I thought that was great but then we saw three Australian Seals with their heads peaking out of the water. They were really cool but they soon scarpered when the boat got closer. Next, a pod of dolphins swam extremely close to the boat. They were jumping out of the water and racing to keep up with the boat. They were so close that I probably could have touched them. The water was crystal clear so you could see them swimming underwater. The guy told us that they were Common Dolphins.
By this time I was absolutely thrilled and I didn't care if we saw whales or not. We then spotted a cloud of air above the water which is what is made when a whale comes to the surface and blows through its blowhole. I was very excited. We went at high speed to where we saw the cloud of air and water. We were in luck as we saw three humpback whales. They were majestic - surfacing and flapping their tails and pectoral fins out of the water. I couldn't believe it. They were very large.
| The boat was going quite fast! |
On our way back, we saw (that's right there's more) another pod of dolphins but this time they were Bottlenose Dolphins. They didn't stay for long but they were still fantastic.
Towards the end of the cruise, the guy told us that we were incredibly lucky to see Fairy Penguins, Australian Seals, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins and Humpback Whales all in one day. It was absolutely brilliant!
