Sunday 31st July

Today we drove from Merimbula to Huskisson in Jervis Bay.  The drive took quite a while and it struck me again how far apart everywhere is.  We drove for a hundred miles at a time without going through a single town.  We arrived in Huskisson at lunchtime and we were all quite peckish so we went for a stroll to find something to eat.  Huskisson is a nice town with some pretty cafes on the main street.  We walked along the sea front and noticed that the sea was incredibly blue and crystal clear.  The sand was really white on the beaches across from the harbour.  We found an ice creamery and cafe to sit at.  I had a double scoop ice cream - creamy cappucino and old English toffee.  Yeah, that's right, I came all the way to Australia just to have some English toffee ice cream! The lady asked Dad if he wanted to add four donuts to his drinks order for 20c and naturally he said yes!  There you go Nannan - we do have donuts!  Everything was really nice, especially the ice cream.

We ventured into our apartment which was really nicely done (see photo).  It was massive - it had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two balconies!  There were beanbags in the living room area which I automatically sat on.

We got settled in and unpacked and then went back out to the supermarket.  I couldn't believe how British it seemed: the way that everything was laid out and the products.  We went to confirm our booking for whale watching the next day and it turned out that we had been upgraded to the Eco Extreme which was a really fast boat.

We found some tennis courts to play on and we all had a good game.  Although we all suffered from a bit of tennis rage!!!  We spotted some pink and purple parrots sitting on the fence while we were playing which was really cool.

We walked back to our apartment and Dad cooked bruschettas, potatoes and salad - it was gorgeous.   We then watched a few episodes of Outnumbered on Dad's portable projector which was really funny.

Over the holiday, Dad has had a habit of getting tired and sleepy really early - about 9 pm to be precise.  He was practically sleeping on the sofa by the time he actually decided to go to bed.  I had an electric blanket in my bed which kept me really warm because whilst it is warm in the day, the temperature plummets at night and the Australians don't really heat or insulate their houses as they don't have many cold days and nights overall.

Speak soon.
